FM-ed Programs

AM FM Consulting Group Inc. and Spectrum Support Services Inc. are pleased to be offering FM-ed, which includes three new comprehensive Facility Management Programs. Whether you are in operations, have a supervisory role or are in a Facility Manager role, we have a program designed for you. The three programs are: Facility Management Operations EssentialsFacility Management Supervisor, and Advanced FM.

The courses are structured to provide a flexible learning environment combining both in-class and online learning in an optimal and integrated manner. Each program is provided over a 5 to 6 week period and combines 2-3 days of in-class education with 4 sessions of online webinar format learning.

The curriculum for each program is based on 19 core topics which are essential and relevant to individuals in the Facility Management industry. The depth to which each topic is addressed is different in each of the three programs based on the specific needs of the competency level.

The programs have been derived from AM FM and Spectrum’s past experience designing and delivering FM education and a comprehensive understanding of the industry. The format and curriculum for each program has been developed in consultation with seasoned practitioners thereby ensuring the information is up-to-date and relevant for each level. The programs include real case studies and group activities that are designed to challenge you and help you put theory into practice. The programs are offered separately but participants have the option to take them in sequential order.


PROGRAM TITLE: Facility Management Operations Essentials

BRIEF PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
If you are a practitioner who has recently moved into a facility management operations role and require a solid foundation in FM or you have been working in the field for a while and wish to broaden your range and further your career then the Facility Management Operations Essentials program is the perfect beginning.  The course covers a wide range of business, management, and technical areas.  It will help enhance your skills with the know-how to integrate planning, project design, management, and implementation, administration, operations and maintenance.

If you are seeking to learn more about facilities management this course will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the essentials of the facilities management profession and industry.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
At the end of this program, you will have:

  • Broad understanding of the applied competencies required by facilities management professionals;
  • Essential skills vital to work effectively in facilities management; and
  • Working knowledge of the current trends in the facilities management industry.

FORMAT:
The program utilizes a mix of in-class and online learning, a combination that allows each participant a more flexible learning experience.  This course is offered over a 5 week period beginning in January 2012 and will include in-class time as well as online learning.

  • Week 1: IN-CLASS
    • The first week will be in-class, offering each participant an opportunity to meet fellow participants.  The material presented will take advantage of the face-to-face learning environment.
  • Weeks 2, 3, and 4: ONLINE
    • Weeks 2-4 will be offered online utilizing webinar formats.  Each webinar will be 75 minutes in length and the remaining 1 hour and 45 minutes will be open for discussion and questions with other participants and instructors.
  • Week 5: IN-CLASS
    • Week 5 will be in-class, allowing the participants an opportunity to share experiences and solutions and exchange gained knowledge from the course.

PROGRAM TITLE: Facility Management Supervisor

BRIEF PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The role of Facility Supervisor demands many new skills beyond the technical facility operations skills and includes greater administrative and business responsibility.  If you are an aspiring or current Facility Supervisor and wish to continue to be successful in this role, the Facility Management Supervisor program will help you by providing effective techniques in performance management, team capacity building, customer service, and communication.

Through this comprehensive 6-week course you will cover a total of 19 core topics.  You will learn important supervisory skills to allow you to effectively manage Facility Operators and other staff, communications skills to deal with clients and the public, tools to manage increased responsibilities in the areas of Human Resources and Finance as well as new techniques for quality control of maintenance and operations.  The curriculum includes a review of current trends in the FM industry.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
At the end of this program, you will have:

  • Tools to manage increased responsibility;
  • An understanding of the applied competencies;
  • The communications skills to deal with internal and external clients; and
  • An understanding of the regulatory environment of Facilities Management.

BRIEF PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
If you are currently in a Facility Manager role or looking to move into a more senior role, the Advanced FM program is for you.  The program includes the 19 core topics with an emphasis on management skills, leadership ability, and strategic planning.  The latest trends, tools and techniques related to key areas of facility management such as performance indicators, data management and energy conservation, have been included to ensure that you gain a thorough knowledge of key facilities management issues.

Upon completion of this program you will have the ability to apply strategic solutions that are timely, value added, cost-effective and consistent in your organization.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
At the end of this program, you will have:

  • An understanding of all 19 core topics;
  • The tools for strategic thinking;
  • A detailed understanding of best facilities management practices and benchmarking;
  • A number of FM “Best Practices” to help you comply with municipal codes, AODA and OSHA; and
  • The ability to review your operation in light of new learning and strategies.
